Getting started

Who can join AutoFloat?

You need to be at least 18, live in a state where AutoFloat is available, have a registered vehicle with active insurance in your name, and have a US checking account.

What do I need to sign up?

Your legal name, date of birth, home address, Social Security number, a photo ID for a quick selfie check, your car's VIN, your insurance card or declarations page, and online access to your checking account.

Why do you ask for my Social Security number?

Federal law requires financial companies to verify the identity of every customer. We encrypt your SSN, only ever show the last 4 digits, and never use it for a hard credit check.

Why do you need my VIN and insurance?

Your vehicle and active coverage help us confirm who you are without a hard credit check. We never place a lien on your car or hold your title.

Does signing up affect my credit score?

No. We don't run a hard credit inquiry.

How do I link my bank?

Through Stripe Financial Connections. You sign in to your bank in a secure window, and AutoFloat never sees your bank username or password. The name on the bank account must match your verified name.

Membership and pricing

How much does AutoFloat cost?

Plus is $49.99 a month and covers up to 2 bills and $500 a month. Pro is $79.99 a month and covers up to 3 bills and $1,000 a month. That's the only thing you pay us when you pay by bank or debit card (credit cards add $1.99 per payment): no interest, no late fees.

When am I charged for my membership?

Your first month is charged when you finish signing up, from the bank account you linked. After that, it renews on the same date each month. Bank payments take 2 to 4 business days to clear, and we email a receipt every time.

Can I switch plans?

Yes, any time from Settings. The new plan's limits apply right away.

How do I cancel?

From Settings, in a couple of taps. Bills we've already paid keep their payment schedule until they're paid off.

Do you offer referral credits?

Yes. Share your link from Settings. When a friend joins and repays their first bill on time, you both get $10 off your next membership charge.

Paying a bill

Which bills can I pay?

Twenty everyday bill types, including rent, utilities, insurance, phone, internet, car payments and repairs, DMV fees, tolls, medical, dental, daycare, tuition and more. The biller needs to accept payment by bank transfer or check.

How do I submit a bill?

Tap Pay a bill and upload your statement. We read the biller, amount and due date for you. Check the details, confirm, and you're done.

How long does approval take?

We review bills within one business day. Submit at least 3 business days before the due date so the biller receives payment on time.

Why was my bill declined?

Usually because the statement was unclear, the biller couldn't be verified, or the bill was over your remaining limit. We'll tell you the reason and how to fix it.

How do I know the biller was paid?

Your dashboard shows the date we paid and the confirmation number, and we'll email you as soon as it's done.

Repayment

How does Pay in 2 work?

You pay half when your bill is approved. Once that clears, we pay the biller in full, and the other half is debited 14 days later.

What is $0 upfront?

After 6 months of on-time payments, you pay nothing when a bill is approved. We pay the biller first, and you repay half on day 7 and half on day 14.

Can I move a payment if I need more time?

Yes. Tap Need more time? on your dashboard at least a day before the payment date. You can move it 7 or 14 days, or split it into two payments. There's no fee and it doesn't count as a missed payment. The first request in 6 months is approved right away; after that, our team reviews it within one business day.

Can I pay early?

Yes. Pay any installment early from your dashboard at no cost.

Will you remind me before a payment?

Yes, by email and text 2 days before each debit. You can change how we reach you in Settings.

Limits and missed payments

When do my limits reset?

Bill counts and dollar limits reset on the 1st of every month.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Your account is paused until the missed amount is paid, and we retry once after 3 days. You can pay it from your dashboard any time. We never charge late fees.

Does a missed payment lower my limit?

No. Your monthly limit stays the same. A missed payment pauses new bills until it's paid and returns you to half upfront, restarting the 6 months.

I'm having a hard time paying. What should I do?

Use Need more time? on your dashboard before the payment date, or contact us. It's always better to talk to us early.

Add-ons

What add-ons can I get?

Spending insights ($9.99/mo), Rent reporting ($9.99/mo), Credit monitoring ($7.99/mo) and Identity protection ($9.99/mo). Pick any combination at checkout or later in Settings.

How are add-ons billed?

With your membership, on the same date, from the same bank account and on the same receipt. Add-ons you add later start right away, with a prorated charge on your next bill.

How does rent reporting work?

Add your lease details once. Each month we confirm your rent was paid and our partner reports it to the credit bureaus. Rent you pay through AutoFloat is confirmed automatically; otherwise we match it in your bank transactions or ask for a receipt.

Can I remove an add-on?

Yes, any time in Settings. It stops right away and you won't be charged for it again. Canceling your membership also ends your add-ons.

Account and security

How do I turn on two-step sign-in?

Go to Settings, then Security, and set up an authenticator app. You'll enter a code each time you sign in.

I forgot my password.

Tap Forgot password on the sign-in page and we'll email you a code to reset it.

How do I update my bank or insurance?

From Settings. A new bank account must be in your verified name; new insurance is reviewed before it's active.

Can I download or delete my data?

Yes, from Settings, then Privacy. Some records, such as payment history, must be kept for a period required by law.
